Patients who suffer from this disorder appear chronically apprehensive and complain about concerns for ordinary circumstances of everyday life. Such signs are normal in certain stressful situations or in certain periods of life, but identify a Aeneralised Anxiety Disorder when the symptoms appear almost daily, frequently for a continuous period of at least six months.

The result is that the individual cannot controlling concerns, manifests a significant distress and impairment in social life, at work, and within the family.

Drugs were traditionally used to treat it with known consequences. However, talking therapies such as hypnotherapy and psychology have proved successful in treating GAD.

Relaxation techniques have been used in programmes of behavioural therapy and hypnosis and have been efficiently helping individuals with moderate to advanced GAD to overcome the issue. In general the therapy is aimed at the recognition of possible causes, reassurance, resolving conflicts, contributing to the implementation of solution focused strategies.

Through hypnotic regression, and other hypnotherapy techniques the therapist can find the situations linked to the anxiety and transforming these with new resources, increasing the sense of security, self-esteem and self-efficacy.
