Suffering from an eating disorder disrupts a person's life; everything revolves around food and the fear of getting fat deeply impacting personal and professional life.

Often the disorder is associated with other disorders, particularly depression, but also anxiety disorders, alcohol abuse or substances, obsessive compulsive disorder and personality disorders.

One feature almost always present in those suffering from an eating disorder is the alteration of the perception a person has of their appearance, which appears to affect life more of the real image.

There are many types of eating disorders and the most frequent are Binge eating disorder (BED), Anorexia nervosa, and Bulimia.

The physical effects of an eating disorder can be fatal. Eating disorders can affect you psychologically and socially and can lead to severe health problems such as:

  • anaemia
  • liver damage
  • heart failure
  • renal failure
  • low blood sugar levels
  • dental decay
  • osteoporosis and loss of muscle strength
  • hypotension
  • loss of sex drive and erectile dysfunction in men

Treating eating disorders with Hypnosis

Food-related disorders are deep-rooted and need a broad understanding of the causes to find the key to overcoming it. Clinical Hypnotherapy is a very valid therapy for eating disorders if undertaken alongside an adequate nutritional therapy.

The eating disorder, whether it's bulimia, anorexia or an inability to control food intake, can be improved, effectively with hypnosis through a stimulation of the amygdala. As for any treatment of profound origin the individual needs to be motivated, supported by family and friends, and ready to change.
