Clinical Hypnotherapy for Fears

Fear of a specific object or situation (indoors, animals, insects, elevators, flying, etc.) becomes a problem when it is excessive, unreasonable, irrational and exaggerated. But when fear or anxiety become excessive, they end up interfering heavily on activities of everyday life.

At a rational level, those suffering from fear, know that their behavior does not make sense. But fear is so real and so instantaneous that one cannot control it. Any form of control seems vain, every effort made in this direction adds to the unpleasant feelings.

One of the most common forms of fear is social phobia, but equally common are the fear of flying and the fear of driving. Very common is also to overreact at the sight of insects and animals.

Fear is a natural human response to a specific stimulus, real or future, perceived for some reason as a danger. It produces the fight-or-flight response in the body and brain, which can cause a freeze response.

Other common fears seen by hypnotherapists are

  • Fear of flying
  • Claustrophobia
  • Fear of sickness
  • Fear of heights
  • Fear of needles
  • Fear of dentists
  • Fear of pregnancy
  • Fear of water

Clinical Hypnotherapy can break the circle that feeds fear, no matter how deeply rooted in life. There are different approaches to that and each depends on the type of fears or phobia and the individual's history.

Sometimes the therapists can go to the causes of fear in order to overcome it, while other times they work directly on the stimulus-response reaction, so that the object or situation does not trigger a reflection of fear anymore.
